With the announcement of the QSWWA Paint Queen Street Competition, September 2019 to February 2020 saw the pavements of Woollahra thronged with artists and their easels, all trying to capture the village spirit on the medium of their choice. There was no entry fee to the competition and no age limit, the aim being to open it to everyone. This was a tremendous community event with 110 artist registering entries in a wide variety of media, styles and subjects, all on the theme of something or someone in or around Queen Street. The Woollahra Hotel generously hosted the exhibition of entrants, judging and prize giving in early March. The judges were local actor John Bell and Maree Mann from the Waverley Woollahra Art School, with the Mayor of Woollahra, Susan Wynne, presenting the prizes. The competition was kindly supported by Woollahra Council through their placemaking grant scheme, with additional prizes donated by the Waverley Woollahra Art School, Derivan Paints and the Woollahra Hotel.
