The Queen Street & West Woollahra Association |
The Queen Street Fair in Woollahra, Sydney ran from 1972 to 1985, run by the Queen Street & West Woollahra Association. Queen Street was closed between Ocean and Oxford Streets and was filled with stalls, music and throngs of people. Below is a 5 minute program produced by the ABC on the Fair for the "Here & Now with Suzy" program. Based on feedback from local Woollahra residents, we believe this program was filmed in 1975. It features interviews with Fair organiser Leo Schofield, cartoonist Larry Pickering and actor Reg Livermore, who was judging the stalls. The photos in the gallery below were taken in 1979 by Suzie Stirling, owner of a boutique called Tantrika in Spicer Street. The photos are taken around the intersection of Queen and Spicer Streets and include pictures of Tantrika, and Reads (yes, the Reads still there today). The Cheese Shop was in the premises in Spicer Street now occupied by Woollahra Bookshop. Suzie is the lady in red, spruiking her boutique with a friend. Many thanks to Suzie for these photos.
