Thank you for your email sent to all members of the Queen Street and West Woollahra Association.

Changing street names is a global initiative of the Ukrainian Government for the purpose of supporting Ukraine and its people in response to the Russian invasion on 24 February 2022.  Ukrainian organisations are active all over the world implementing this important symbolic act.  As are local Russian communities who oppose the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Could I ask that you please circulate to your members the attached supporting letters from the Embassy of Ukraine, Ukrainian Council of NSW Inc, Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations and the Svoboda Alliance (which were included in the material before Councillors at the meeting on 9 May 2022).

Ukraine has a significant diaspora in Woollahra, and I would ask that you meet with Mr Andrew Mencinsky (copied in on this email). Andrew can explain better than me the positive impact of the proposed name change on the Ukrainian community and their supporters and you can ask him any questions you may have.  

Please note that Councillors insisted on consultation with residents of Fullerton Street and that no decision will be made without considering their responses.
