An application for a Packaged Liquor Licence has been made to the Liquor & Gaming Authority for 136 Queen Street. If granted, the application will be authorised to sell liquor to customers for take-away purposes only. Wine tastings will be able to be conducted on the premises during trading hours only. The business will be called George's Cellar and will be operated by Ice Box Liquor Pty Ltd, which operates a number of liquor stores in NSW, including George's Cellar stores in Coogee and Waverley. Requested trading hours are as follows, with the exception of Good Friday and Christmas Day, when no trading is permitted:
Monday to Saturday 10.00am to 9.00pm
Sunday 10.00am to 8.00pm

In February 2021, Woollahra Council refused a DA for 136 Queen Street to change the use from a fruit and grocery shop to a wine and liquor store. Search the council website for DA 404/2020 for details of the DA. The grounds for the refusal can be read in the attached file below. It is not clear how a liquor licence can be granted without a corresponding DA approval.
