The Woollahra Train Station & Rezoning - the QSWWA Position

The NSW Government has announced completion of the long derelict Woollahra Station and an associated rezoning of land within 800m of the station and 400m of Edgecliff station (click map so see a larger version). This is causing concern and uncertainty throughout the Woollahra area, particularly in those streets most likely to be impacted. Based on the limited available information, the Queen Street & West Woollahra Association’s welcomes a new station in principle, but that any decisions about rezoning need to be made with the NSW Government working together with Woollahra Council and local communities to develop a solution that meets the objectives of all parties. That is, a strategy that allows housing growth and increased density in agreed areas while preserving the heritage and essence of Woollahra, the village atmosphere, which is why people want to live here in the first place. The current target of 10,000 additional homes would require a doubling of the population in not only Woollahra and Edgecliff but Double Bay, Darling Point and Point Piper as well, which is totally unrealistic.

An expanded version on the QSWWA position and concerns can be found here. This proposal is generating a number of calls from journalists interested in the Association's position and we are using these to voice our concerns. Links to statement by the Mayor and media article quoting the QSWWA are below. We will keep members informed as more details become available and any appropriate course of action that members can take to get the NSW Government to listen.
